Every American Who Cares About This Country Should Read This

email exchange between Edward Snowden and Senator Gordon Humphrey, a former 2-term Senator from New Hampshire:

Former two-term GOP Senator Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire emailed Edward Snowden yesterday  (LINK):
------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Snowden,

Provided you have not leaked information that would put in harms way any intelligence agent, I believe you have done the right thing in exposing what I regard as massive violation of the United States Constitution. Having served in the United States Senate for twelve years as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Judiciary Committee, I think I have a good grounding to reach my conclusion.  (Emphasis is mine)

I wish you well in your efforts to secure asylum and encourage you to persevere. Kindly acknowledge this message, so that I will know it reached you.

Regards,
Gordon J. Humphrey
Former United States Senator
New Hampshire
------------------------------------------------------------
After I contacted Sen. Humphrey to confirm its authenticity, he wrote to me

Mr. Greenwald,

Yes. It was I who sent the email message to Edward Snowden, thanking him for exposing astonishing violations of the US Constitution and encouraging him to persevere in the search for asylum.

To my knowledge, Mr. Snowden has disclosed only the existence of a program and not details that would place any person in harm's way. I regard him as a courageous whistle-blower.

I object to the monumentally disproportionate campaign being waged by the U.S. Government against Edward Snowden, while no effort is being made to identify, remove from office and bring to justice those officials who have abused power, seriously and repeatedly violating the Constitution of the United States and the rights of millions of unsuspecting citizens.

Americans concerned about the growing arrogance of our government and its increasingly menacing nature should be working to help Mr. Snowden find asylum. Former Members of Congress, especially, should step forward and speak out.

Regards,
Gordon Humphrey

Snowden's reply to Sen. Humphrey:

Mr. Humphrey,

Thank you for your words of support. I only wish more of our lawmakers shared your principles - the actions I've taken would not have been necessary.

The media has distorted my actions and intentions to distract from the substance of Constitutional violations and instead focus on personalities. It seems they believe every modern narrative requires a bad guy. Perhaps it does. Perhaps, in such times, loving one's country means being hated by its government.

If history proves that be so, I will not shy from that hatred. I will not hesitate to wear those charges of villainy for the rest of my life as a civic duty, allowing those governing few who dared not do so themselves to use me as an excuse to right these wrongs.

My intention, which I outlined when this began, is to inform the public as to that which is done in their name and that which is done against them. I remain committed to that. Though reporters and officials may never believe it, I have not provided any information that would harm our people - agent or not - and I have no intention to do so.

Further, no intelligence service - not even our own - has the capacity to compromise the secrets I continue to protect. While it has not been reported in the media, one of my specializations was to teach our people at DIA how to keep such information from being compromised even in the highest threat counter-intelligence environments (i.e. China).

You may rest easy knowing I cannot be coerced into revealing that information, even under torture.
With my thanks for your service to the nation we both love,
Edward Snowden

  1. Off the topic. Dave, can you recommend some books/reports/handbooks on the Middle East gold market. Which companies are the biggest players? What is the demand pattern? Any seasonality? Any religious meaning for gold as in India? I can't find many in-depth resources in English on the Middle East gold market.

    1. No idea. I would google "Dubai gold market" or something like that. There's also a banking group called Emirates NBD and they put out a lot of research on gold. Try googling them too.

  2. Thank you very much for posting this dialogue Dave.. I have not seen it elsewhere and indeed attitudes regarding Snowden clearly separate along the lines of wakefulness.

  3. It was 1988 that this reader was intrigued by an interview on a national public radio program.

    The overall message was
how at that time there was no one of outstanding quality political wise who would step forward to assume responsibility in leading the United States. They were out there, they just didn't want the job. Washington was too much of a circus so it was described.
Isn't that interesting ? A perfect opportunity for the wrong kind to enter into the epicenter of our great country and take over the controls ! And enter they did !
The mess that we as Americans have let happen is our doing and responsibility to right the wrong. By realizing what great deeds were performed by Edward Snowden and others like him ,he should be backed up by any American citizen who wants their country to turn around , survive and grow in a healthy direction.

Central banks , crony politicians ,big business, lobbiest, and any other putrid entity who's # 1 motive is to destroy what the United States first set out to do , namely honor justice and freedom for all. They should all be shown the door.

Nobody around me is concerned about this in Nevada. They are more concerned about riots from the Zimmerman's case or they don't care about anything. Some know of Snowden but many don't. He is so far away in Russia that no one cares. It's all pre-2008 all over again. The state news media keeps pumping out the propaganda that the recovery is taking hold or these people are in denial, saying that the balance-of-power in Washington DC will keep things in check. Senior citizens still think their pension can't be touch caused they are "godfathered-in". I went warning people 8 months before the 2008 crash and I'm NOT going to repeat myself again. They're just gonna have to find out the hard way.

  7. The Return of Lawrence Summers, Mr. Spectacular Failure | The Nation

Tell me it’s a sick joke: Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, the guy who tops the list of those responsible for sabotaging the world’s economy, is lobbying to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve. But no, it makes perfect sense, since Summers has long succeeded spectacularly by failing.

Why should his miserable record in the Clinton and Obama administrations hold him back from future disastrous adventures at our expense? With Ben Bernanke set to step down in January, and Obama still in deep denial over the pain and damage his former top economic adviser Summers brought to tens of millions of Americans, this darling of Wall Street has yet another shot to savage the economy.

Summers was one of the key players during the Clinton years in creating the mortgage derivative bubble that ended up costing tens of millions of Americans their homes and life savings. This is the genius who, as Clinton’s Treasury secretary, supported the banking lobby’s successful effort to make the sale of unregulated bundles of mortgage securities and the phony insurance swaps that backed them perfectly legal and totally unmonitored. Those are the toxic bundles that the Federal Reserve is still unloading from the banks at a cost of trillions of dollars.

  8. Q. "Are You Printing Money?" A. "Not Literally"

The following brief exchange between a congressman and Ben Bernanke pretty much wins today's Humphrey Hawkins farce.

    Q: Are You Printing Money?
    Bernanke: Not Literally

And a FTW follow up from the Chairman:

If the Fed were to tighten policy, the economy "would tank"

And there you have it. Everyone can go home now.

  10. Bernocchio!

I have had several comments regarding my referencing the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Mr. Benjamin S. Bernanke as "Bernocchio". Some have said it was cute or clever and others have told me it was a show of disrespect. ...Well yeah...it is disrespectful and for good reason. The guy is a LIAR plain and simple. Not only a liar, he has perjured himself in front of the Congress more than several times and done so in blatant fashion. The sad thing is that there is virtually no one in Congress (now that Ron Paul has retired) even knowledgeable enough to call him on his perjurous testimonies.
I assume that since he was the head of Princeton's Economics' department that he knows the differences between his testimonies and the truth, maybe I'm wrong and he is just stupid (please e-mail in anger about this) and really believes his own BS?
He has perjured himself so many times but here are examples of just 3. Three of THE most basic monetary and economic concepts known (or hopefully unknown from the standpoint of bankers) to man.
First, when asked by Ron Paul if "Gold is money", Bernocchio answered "no it is not". I will not again go into a tirade over this statement or remind you that J. P. Morgan himself said that "only Gold is money, nothing else". Gold IS money, Bernocchio knows it, we know he knows it and he knows that we know... Next up Bernocchio testified that "we are not monetizing debt". Really? Then what exactly are you doing when you create "Dollars" out of thin air to purchase Treasury securities that otherwise would not be purchased because there are not enough buyers to be "had" (pun definitely intended)?
Today he was asked "are you printing money?". He answered "not literally". Huh? "Literally" as in not actually printing Dollar bills? Or "literally" as in not the one running a printing press? Or pouring the ink or running the tractor to pick the cotton or using the chainsaw to cut the trees down to "actually" print money? Not "literally"? Is this his attempt to imitate Bill Clinton when he said "it depends on what the definition of 'is', is"?
So, everyone in the financial industry just "hangs" on every word that comes from this idiots mouth. This guy is the head of and running THE biggest Ponzi/Pyramid/never pay scheme in the history of history, raises his right hand and places his left hand on the bible and outright lies...and everyone just can't wait to hear what he has to say! Is everyone stupid?
This guy is like the Pied Piper's (Alan Greenspan's) apprentice turned leader of the pack. Why does anyone who has any sanity whatsoever listen to what he says? If you know someone is lying in the real world (as opposed to the Alice in Wall Street world) do you continue to listen? To believe? Well, it seems like the rest of the world has already figured this out which is why their imports of Gold, real and true money, have exploded. The rest of the world is acting like they are trying to "beat the clock" and hoard as much Gold as possible before the fableliscious Dollar story comes to and end. One can only imagine how history will tell the story of the most powerful and well known banker the world has ever known, "Bernocchio"! Regards
    Bill H.,
