  1. Why do you refuse to research Eric Blair but continue to paste a cartoon of his comment.

Orwell's real name was Eric Blair and he was descended from Charles Blair, a Scot who made a fortune in Jamaica before marrying into the English aristocracy.

    1. Yes, I am well aware of his real name and his biography. Most people who understand the brilliance of his vision know all about him. What's your point? I'm sure I read both Animal Farm and 1984 twice each and wrote papers on both before you were born.

    2. LOL. Most people in the USA, not sure of anywhere else, do not read books any more. Too busy listening to Rush and reality TV where they base their ideas of current events and history. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and never had a TV until 1970 and then did not watch much until 1978 or so. Alternative was to read many books and still do but alas at a slower pace.

Dave I am the guy who emailed about HL months back and it looks to be taking off. I bought back in today after it was up 7% or so.

  2. Corruption is like terrorism, says China journalist

According to China’s anti-corruption man of the hour, journalist Luo Changping (pictured), economic reforms won’t be enough to curb the country’s corruption pandemic.

His new book examines 120 corruption cases involving high-profile Chinese officials. In it, Luo argues the seriousness of the situation requires a “comprehensive supervisory mechanism encompassing the Party, administration, judiciary, society, and media.”

In a May 17 piece for the newspaper Southern Weekly, Luo likened corruption to terrorism, in that they both “can cause widespread public alarm.” He made reference to a microblog post from July 2011 that enlarged upon the concept of “corruption terrorism.” Left unchecked, the microblogger claimed, the problem could spread to the point where no segment of society is safe.

    1. Is "Jesse" a pen-name for Barbara Erhenreich?

Great commentary dude. Clearly Orwell's perpetual war is the Bush/Obama "war on terror." What the fuck are we fighting anyway? I'm more terrified of the drones flying over this country and Americans operating them than I am of foreign "terrorists." Our Government is the world's most dangerous and most prolific terrorist.

    2. It's all true. As a former Intelligence Officer for a three-letter US agency in Afghanistan, I worked on the drone program for years. It is truly a never-ending campaign of slaughtering innocent Afghanis and wasting American resources simultaneously. I have never seen such blatant waste anywhere else in the world, all with zero tangible benefit. That is, unless padding the pockets of the few privileged insiders in the defense contracting world counts as progress. May God have mercy on our souls.

  5. Dave, there is no need to read George Orwell's books. Just go to North Korea and you will witness the real animal farm. I have just come back from North Korea. It was a quite interesting trip. Many Chinese travel agencies organise trips to North Korea. If you want somewhere to visit in the coming summer, North Korea is a great choice.

  6. What’s Inside the Government’s Deal With Citigroup?

The conservator for Fannie Mae (FNMA) and Freddie Mac was eager for publicity in September 2011 when it sued 17 financial institutions, accusing them of ripping off the two government-backed housing financiers. It isn’t so enthusiastic anymore.

This week the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency told a federal judge it had settled its case against Citigroup Inc. (C) The agency won’t say how much money Citigroup is paying. Neither will Citigroup, which survived the financial crisis only because it got multiple taxpayer bailouts. The parties agreed to keep the terms confidential. The government has decided this is none of the public’s business.

The agency had accused Citigroup of violating securities laws and making misrepresentations about $3.5 billion of mortgage bonds that it sold to Fannie and Freddie during the housing bubble, before they were seized by the government. This is the second such lawsuit to be resolved so far. In January, the agency dropped its suit against General Electric Co. (GE) after reaching a deal over mortgage bonds sold to Freddie Mac. (FMCC) In that case, too, the terms weren’t disclosed.

This should make every American’s blood boil. The government is devoting taxpayer resources to pursue these claims in court. The public is entitled to know the results. It’s that simple.

This conveniently makes it difficult for the public to hold anyone at the FHFA accountable. If the settlements were large, I suspect the agency would be bragging about them as an inducement to get other defendants to pay more.

Maybe we will get lucky, and a congressional committee will start asking questions and calling folks to testify. (A good start would be with Edward DeMarco, the agency’s acting director, and Mel Watt, the Democratic U.S. Representative from North Carolina who is President Barack Obama’s nominee to lead the agency.) Otherwise, we may never know what happened, or if the government’s claims on behalf of Fannie and Freddie had any merit -- especially if the defendants all settle out of court.

  7. Time Magazine Cover: This is What Propaganda Looks Like

Still don’t believe mainstream media outlets are engaged in deliberate propaganda against U.S. citizens? If not, these images should shake you out of your stupor. I’ve pointed out the difference in Time Magazine covers for the U.S. market versus what they show the rest of the world before, and at times it is nothing short of incredible. In this case, they show political mobster, and Chicago mayor, Rahm Emmanuel on the cover. Not only does nobody care about this clown, he is certainly not the most important story on earth this past week. Meanwhile, look at what is highlighted to everyone else on the planet. How utterly embarrassing
